EA Anonymous…next edition
This story is entirely fictional - a playful glimpse into the life of Krystal, a dedicated Executive Assistant in an Australian School. Inspired by the unsung heroes who keep schools running smoothly, Krystal and her world are products of imagination. Blending humour, heart, and a touch of chaos, this tale celebrates the resilience, wit, and warmth of EAs everywhere. Any resemblance to real people or events is purely coincidental. Step into Krystal’s office and enjoy her wonderfully messy, endearing world.
The Boss comes back from his retreat and latest professional learning leadership seminar and is acting strangely. Krystal is confused and needs some guidance.
Things were weird.
The boss had approved Krystal’s trip to “The Gathering” with the proviso that Krystal catch the bus rather than fly. Budget cuts were still in vogue so she needed to stay with her great Aunt in Penrith. Nevertheless, she was going and was very excited to CONNECT, GROW and BELONG to the EAs in Education network. She seriously needed some advice and guidance.
The boss had returned from Bali with a strange vibe. His performance review indicated that his temper was volatile at times and he was viewed as unpredictable. The boss had taken this onboard. He wasn’t ready to retire yet and with three ex-wives and multiple children to school, he still needed a job.
The boss had returned a changed man.
He had started saying namaste regularly, now demanded daily blocks for meditation and mindfulness and was burning vanilla essence in his office. Even worse he had adopted a new range of management jargon based on the books he read whilst remaining silent and isolated from his iPad for a month. Conversations now went like this.
“Hi Boss, can we discuss the gathering?”
“Can we circle back on that one, we need to get our ducks in a row and test the temperature.”
“Boss, the buses are running late from the swimming sports.”
“Ok makes me wonder, do we have all the aces in their spaces, let's circle back on that one to test the synergy by running that up the flagpole.”
“Boss, Amelia would like to speak to you about her LSL.”
“Well, tell her please that's now on the back burner, let's bring it to the table to bring these silos down. I don't have the bandwidth to deal with that. I think it may be above my pay grade.”
This was just gibberish and Krystal was concerned.
The Boss was the Boss, he was the pay grade.
She thought he was officially knee deep in a midlife crisis. Krystal needed assistance.
The subtle tones of Enyas “Sail Away” wafted from his office as the bells chimed for the Boss’s mindfulness time.
Yes, he had officially lost his mind...The Gathering couldn't come soon enough!
