“A rising tide raises all boats.” - JFK

“A rising tide raises all boats.” - JFK

I’ve always loved this quote - not just for its optimism, but for what it represents in the context of growth. Whether in our professional lives, our personal development, or within an educational setting, this simple metaphor holds immense truth.

The former President used this quote several times in his speeches, signifying its significance as a metaphor of social growth and improvement.

And from my experience, and as a central theme of EAs in Education, when we strategically strive to create the ideal conditions for people to thrive, performance doesn’t just improve in isolated pockets.

It lifts everyone. Together we are stronger and we have the capacity to achieve great things.

This is the essence of our aspirations at EAs in Education. For us to grow as individuals, but ultimately for us all to be better today than we were yesterday, even if by only 1%.

So how can we bring the “rising tide” effect to life in our schools and organisations?

I believe it begins with a few essential ingredients:
➡️ Clear goals and aligned priorities
➡️ A culture where people support one another
➡️ Strategic investment in skills and development
➡️ Leaders who communicate openly and with transparency

How does your school measure against these? And where might there be opportunities to lift the tide just a little higher?

Because when we elevate the environment with clarity, culture, support, learning - we elevate the people within it.

And when people grow, the organisation grows with them.

We each have a role to play in raising the tide.
