THE NATIONAL GATHERING ‘The Story of Us’

The National Gathering - The Scots College, Bellevue Hill - Friday 6 June 2025

At The National Gathering we came together not just as Executive Assistants - but as cathedral builders. Each of us contributing to something greater than ourselves.

The Story of Us (Belonging & Identity) was inspired by Owen Eastwood’s work on belonging. It reminded us that shared purpose, values, and storytelling create a strong collective identity. These voices - your voices, shaped something profound: A narrative that reflects our passion, our challenges, and our calling.

We explored who we are, what we value, and where we’re going as a profession, drawing on research, shared stories, and a deep sense of purpose. We unpacked themes of servant leadership, purpose, recognition, and the real and lasting impact EAs have in schools. We explored the evolving AI landscape and tools, gained insights on the principles of Personal Mastery, and uncovered the power of Personal Branding.

My heart is full of gratitude.

To every EA who attended and supported this event, thank you for stepping out of your day to day space - to show up, to lean in and to choose connection. To those that stood up and shared during our reflection - thank you.

To our inspiring presenters Dr Paul Teys on Personal Mastery & Self-Development, Leon Furze on Generative AI and Emily Kucukalic on Personal Brand - thank you. Your insights and expertise were invaluable. We return to our schools enriched, empowered, and better for the knowledge you shared.

To our incredible panellists Katie York, Melissa Butcher and Maryanne Walton - we are all deeply grateful for your generosity, wisdom, and authenticity. Your stories and insights resonated deeply and reminded us of the power of shared experience in our profession.

To our generous sponsors - gold sponsor NGS Super and bronze sponsors u&u Recruitment Partners and ASCA Ltd. - your belief and support made this gathering possible. To the staff at The Scots College, Dr Ian Lambert, Dr Rob Loe, Ian Finn and Maryanne Walton for inviting us to your beautiful school, for your hospitality, warmth and generosity.

To every Senior Educational Leader - thank you for investing in your EA.

To my boss, Dr Steven Middleton - a special thank you for your role as Master of Ceremonies and presenter. Your mentorship and unwavering support have been instrumental in the growth of this comnmunity. Thank you for walking alongside me and for being such an incredible thought partner throughout this journey.

The Gathering was truly empowering, elevating and extraordinary - a moment in time to connect, grow and to feel a profound true sense of belonging.

Together, we are rewriting the story of what it means to be an EA in Education.

And this is only the beginning.
