liminality - Ever felt caught between what was and what’s next?

Ever felt caught between what was and what’s next?

That in-between space has a name: Liminality. It’s the moment when one chapter is closing, but the next hasn’t yet begun.

It can be a strange and challenging place to stand.

For our Year 12 students, the end of school is near. Exams are not far away. In just a few months, they’ll step out of the familiar rhythm of classes and school activities into a future not yet fully revealed.

For our 2026 student leaders, the journey is just beginning. They’re being inducted into leadership, stepping into roles that are new, exciting, and perhaps a little daunting, leaving behind the comfort of watching others lead and beginning to shape their own paths.

In the workplace, liminal seasons appear too, like when we move from working closely with one Senior Executive to another. And this is where I find myself now. And I’ll be honest: this space isn’t always easy to welcome. The unknown looms. What will the future hold? I am sure many of you have been here before.

The relationships, rhythms, and understandings we built in our ‘dynamic duo’ chapter are drawing to a close. Yet we are grateful for the time, we will carry forward the lessons, the laughter, and continue the connections. The learning doesn’t end here - it simply evolves.

A new chapter for both, brings fresh perspectives from new leaders, opportunities to adapt and grow, and the chance to build new professional relationships.

Liminality reminds us: these moments are not just gaps to be endured, but spaces to be embraced. Here is where reflection meets anticipation. I know... easier said than done.

So whether you’re finishing, beginning, or somewhere in between - pause. Breathe. Notice the power of this threshold. Because in this space, where endings meet beginnings, transformation takes root.

And although difficult and uncomfortable at times, I’ll try to remember this.
